During my final years of school I had a difficult choice in choosing between music and art for my studies.  Happily, (and much to my surprise) I was accepted unconditionally for the Scottish Conservatoire.  This, together with a general dissatisfaction with my perceived understanding of what kind of things I would be taught at Art School, led to my choosing music.

However, over the last few years I felt an increasing need to return to art.  This time, age and experience had given me something I really wanted to say, and a clearer idea of what I was searching for in art.  In addition, I sensed that everything I wanted to achieve in music and writing could also be drawn together in this search.  This website is my way of thrashing out and sharing these ideas.  It is intended to be a little like an extended blog.

I have also started to study with the Open School of the Arts, which offers a distance learning pathway to a BA Painting degree.  Distance learning gives me a greater freedom in funding and persuing my studies and independent exploration.  More of my current work will be posted regularly on the Sketchbook and Recent Work pages.
